There
is something in the air.
Things we have counted on are giving way.
We have lost faith in our leaders and our institutions. We are fighting
among ourselves. Our differences appear stronger than the
glue that binds us as a nation.
Overseas,
endless wars drain
resources as tensions now boil with an aligned Russia and
China. At home,
exponentially expanding debt reaches toxic levels. Globalization guts
the
middle class. Our Federal Reserve feeds
speculation
and inflates another asset bubble with trillion$
in quantitative easing,
while the real economy
stagnates. As
anger and frustration well, the
social fabric tears, then
shreds.
Sarasota
is an exceptional community. Life is much better here than most places,
and we are
prosperous. In turn, we have greatly benefited from
the speculation and the bubble, and we'll feel proportional pain
if
it pops - as every bubble
has in history, including 2000 and 2008. Though we are
currently content, all may not be well.
We are entering unfamiliar territory and the macro trends are there to
read. Are we moving toward stability, or
entropy and...
...
and
for future times, when we may no longer depend on the services
we now take for
granted...
